For some reason, the folks who dream up these great terms have always pictured editors wearing hats. Why? Well, as the story goes, when it comes time to edit, the editor's hat allows fresh writing to be seen with a different, keener eye.
That sounds grand, but what the hell does it mean? This blog will try to explain.
